Bridgnorth Bypass Road Update & Look Ahead (2017-11-17)

A458 Improvement update

Improvement works on the A458 Bridgnorth bypass are set to be substantially complete on 21st November.

At present the contractor is completing the last of the programmed works, with works in progress on powering up the streetlights, the vehicle restraint system, gully cleaning and the white lining.

The additional resurfacing works on the Stourbridge Road Roundabout is also still in progress with white lining the final activity.

These works should be completed by Tuesday 21st November. However any remedial works identified as the activities above are completed may mean that some minor site works will occur until Friday 24th November when the Contractor is planning to have fully demobilised.

In October Shropshire Council decided to replace the parapet mesh panels on the River Severn Bridge. These are on order, however the lead in on these items meant that it has not been possible to install these at the same time as the remaining site works. The present panels are serviceable and safe in the meantime.

Once these panels become available the Contractor will remobilise a small team to install these at a future date to be confirmed. To minimise disruption to traffic it is planned that this work will occur over night between 8PM and 6AM (weekdays) using 2 way traffic signals on the bridge over a 10 night period. These works will be advertised using advance warning signs located on each approach to the bridge in due course.

As the scheme is nearing its end, this will be the final update you will receive on the project.

Employment Fraud Alert

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) has identified a number of reports where job seekers are being targeted by fraudsters trying to obtain personal and banking details from them, or requesting money to secure accommodation.

Individuals registering with job seeking websites or searching for jobs on The Student Room website are being contacted by bogus recruitment companies/businesses asking them to complete application and interview forms which request personal details and banking details, as well as copies of identity documents.

In some instances the applicant is invited along for interview, either in person or over the phone, to make the process look as legitimate as possible. This is impacting on students and graduates looking for work both in the UK and overseas. Some job seekers, as well as divulging personal details, have paid money to the fraudsters in order to secure a bogus rental property alongside the job offer.

How to protect yourself:

  • Check emails and documents from the recruiter for poor spelling and grammar – this is often a sign that fraudsters are at work.
  • If visa fees are mentioned, ask the embassy representing the country where you believe you will be working how to obtain a visa and how much it costs. Check that the answers the potential employer or recruiter gave you are the same – if they’re not, it may be a sign of fraud.
  • Carry out thorough research to confirm that the organisation offering you the job actually exists. If it does exist, contact the organisation directly using contact details obtained through your own research or their website to confirm the job offer is genuine.

What to do if you’re a victim:

  • If you think your bank details have been compromised or if you believe you have been defrauded contact your bank immediately.
  • Stop all communication with the ‘agency’ but make a note of their details and report it to Action Fraud.
  • Warn the operators of the job website you used that their site is being used by fraudsters.
  • If you have been affected by this, or any other type of fraud, report it to Action Fraud by visitingwww.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Bridgnorth Bypass Road Update & Look Ahead (2017-11-10)

A458 Improvement update

Improvement works on the A458 Bridgnorth bypass are set to finish on 21st November.

Works to the deck joints on Bridgnorth River Severn Bridge, signage and drainage are now complete.  Works to the safety barriers and street lighting are coming to and end.

The additional works identified to be carried out to the Stourbridge Road Roundabout are planned to begin week commencing 13th November over a series of two consecutive night time, and two consecutive 24hour road closures. These closures put in place will prevent access/egress from the Old Stourbridge Road, and the Old Worcester Road onto the roundabout.

These will begin with a closure between 8pm Monday 13th November and 6am on Tuesday 14th November, continuing with a closure beginning on 8pm on Tuesday 14th November and ending on 6am Friday 17th November.

The main A458 through route will be open at all times controlled by traffic signals.

Access to all properties will be maintained via the diversion routes.

It is recognised that this works will cause further disruption and delays to traffic throughout the day and especially during peak hours. However these works are considered essential to maintain the long term durability of the surfacing at this location.

Delays are expected during the daytime and particularly during peak times. It is advised that motorists should seek alternative routes if possible, or allow additional journey times. We apologise in advance with respect to the delays these works will cause. Specific advance signage has been erected to warn motorists of these additional works.

The product used to provide the final surfacing takes 12 hours to cure before traffic can use the road. There will be times when you see no workforce on site.

This will involve further periods where both the Ludlow Road Roundabout, the Kidderminster Road Roundabout and the Wenlock Road Junction may be controlled under traffic signals at various times. These signals are being manually controlled at peak times. When the Kidderminster road roundabout is controlled by traffic signals, the B4363/Underhill Street/Hollybush Road junction will also be controlled by traffic signals in order to minimise the delays at this junction. We apologise in advance with respect to the delays these works will cause.

Superfast Broadband Plans for Chetton (Update 2017-10-30)

Faster fibre broadband is now available to order in Chetton village.

The legacy contract 1 work that is expected to benefit premises in the south west of the parish should be completed early in the New Year.

People can visit our website: http://connectingshropshire.co.uk/when-and-where/ to check which exchange area and cabinet serves their premises and to check the availability of fibre broadband.

Because we have installed Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) in this area, those premises within reach of the network should be able to benefit from download speeds of up to 300mbps (and upload speeds of up to 20mbps). However, not all service providers currently offer the service so parishioners might not be informed by their Internet Service Provider (ISP) that it is available and may need to consider changing providers.

More information is available on our website, see: http://connectingshropshire.co.uk/fibre-to-the-premises-fttp-installation/.

Please note that broadband speeds won’t increase automatically.

Bridgnorth Bypass Road Update & Look ahead 13/10/2017

A458 Improvement update

Improvement works on the A458 Bridgnorth bypass continue.

Works to the safety barriers, street lighting and drainage over the entire site have been ongoing. These works will continue until November during midweek daytime hours. This will involve further periods where both the Ludlow Road Roundabout, the Kidderminster Road Roundabout and the Wenlock Road Junction will be controlled under traffic signals at various times.

The deck joints on Bridgnorth River Severn Bridge have progressed well. Works are now focused onto completing the surfacing over the bridge in advance of the last joint works. Some concrete repairs remain to be carried out to the bridge underside and these will continue into the late part of October. Traffic signals which have been a feature the last fortnight will remain in place until this work is complete.

Night time road closures are planned in late October for the final completion of the bridge deck joint rubbers and nosings , further bridge inspection works and the SVR bridge painting. This will include a further long closure of the bypass which will include daytime hours. A number of improvements to the traffic management and signage layout have been identified and will be implemented for long closures of the bypass, which will occur between 8pm on Tuesday 24th October and 6am on Thursday 26th October. This Includes programming the closure to coincide with the school half term holidays. Additional advance warning signage, controlling the B4363/Underhill Street/Hollybush Road junction with manual Stop Go boards, and turning off the pedestrian crossing on Bridgnorth (Old) Bridge to assist with the flow of traffic through and into town. Whilst it is expected these improvements will assist in minimising delays, long delays are however again expected, particularly during peak times. It is advised that motorists should seek alternative routes if possible, or allow additional journey times. We apologise in advance with respect to the delays these works will cause.

On the evening of 6th November, the A458 link between the Kidderminster Road Roundabout and the Stourbridge Road Roundabout will be closed overnight for repairs to the existing surfacing. This will be a single night closure between 8pm on Monday 6th November and 6am on Tuesday 7thNovember.

We apologise in advance with respect to the delays these works will cause. Specific advance signage will appear in due course to warn motorists of these additional works. A letter drop to inform residents in the immediate area, and local businesses effected will be carried out week commencing 16th October. It has already been identified that HGV access into and out of the Old Worcester road will present a challenge, we are already in discussions with interested parties.

Bridgnorth Bypass Update 1st Sept 2017

A458 Improvement update

Improvement works on the A458 Bridgnorth bypass continue.

The work on the A458 and the roundabout approaches between the A458/B4373 (Wenlock Road) junction and the Stourbridge Road roundabout are due to finish by 10 November.

Works to the safety barriers, street lighting and drainage over the entire site have been ongoing. These works will continue into the beginning of October during daytime hours. This will involve further periods where both the Ludlow Road Roundabout, the Kidderminster Road Roundabout and the Wenlock Road Junction will be controlled under traffic signals.

Resurfacing of the Ludlow Road and Kidderminster Road roundabouts will begin initially on the evening of the 4th September where half the roundabouts will be resurfaced to a temporary running course during night time road closures.

Resurfacing of the A458 itself will begin on the evening of the 6th September and will be ongoing during night time road closures for the next fortnight.

Taking advantage of the night time closures on the A458 itself the works to the deck joints on Bridgnorth River Severn Bridge will begin on the evening of the 11th where the existing joints will be replaced on one running lane at a time. This work will be ongoing during night time road closures until mid October. During daytime traffic signals will be in place with one lane closed.

All night time road closures will take place between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00. Local diversions will be in place and signed at all times.

Bridgnorth Bypass Update 19/7/17

A458 Improvement works have started.

Improvement works on the A458 Bridgnorth bypass started on Tuesday 11 July 2017.

The work on the A458 and the roundabout approaches between the A458/B4373 (Wenlock Road) junction and the Stourbridge Road roundabout are due to finish by 10 November.

A 20mph temporary speed limit has been placed on the works extents for the duration of the scheme. This speed reduction is in place to protect both the contractors workforce, but also to give added safety to the motoring public.

Since the 11th July Shropshire Council’s contractors have been working on the Bridgnorth River Severn Bridge and on the Stourbridge Road and Kidderminster Road Roundabouts. These works will continue for the next two weeks.

Works to the bridge are ongoing, concrete testing is currently being carried out on the bridge deck from the underside of the bridge, however works to the bridge parapets on the topside of the bridge will begin requiring two way traffic signals to be in place from the 24th July for approx. 1 week.

Concurrently work will continue to both roundabouts. Traffic Management will be in place on the roundabouts at different times to enable the contractor to carry out excavation in a safe manner. Only one roundabout will be under traffic signals at any one time and works will be phased to avoid the signals on Bridgnorth Bridge. This work will last another 2 weeks.

Looking further ahead at road closure dates, it is intended that a series of weekday, but night time closures will be in place from 4th September, extending well into October to enable the resurfacing works and bridge deck joint replacement works.

Final resurfacing of the Ludlow Road and Kidderminster Road roundabouts require 24 hour road closures where half of each roundabout will be closed to enable curing of the surfacing material. These are currently planned for midweek days during mid-September. Further and more specific details will be released nearer the time when dates are more firmly programmed.

Superfast Broadband plans for Chetton

Update from Connecting Shropshire

20170718 Chetton parish council – update from Connecting Shropshire

Connecting Shropshire is a multi-million pound programme to bring faster broadband to the parts of the Shropshire Council area where private companies are not going to provide it as part of their current commercial plans. To date, the programme has provided access to superfast broadband for many homes and businesses across a range of exchange areas, from Albrighton to Chirbury, and Chirk to Tenbury Wells. More than 60,000 premises are now within reach of the new network that we’ve built. The programme is due to complete by 2020.

To date, Connecting Shropshire has provided access to fibre broadband for around 30 premises in the parish. Premises in The Down area (to the west of the exchange building) have access to a fibre broadband connection. Once fibre broadband is available in an area, people wanting to access the new network need to make the switch by upgrading to a fibre broadband package with their chosen internet service provider.

Parishioners can visit our website: http://connectingshropshire.co.uk/when-and-where/ to check the availability of fibre broadband and the detailed map at https://shropshire.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=ddc8d72666934ca4ab4f938050be4ee4). If parishioners have download speeds of less 2mbps, they can apply to the Better Broadband Subsidy Scheme. For more details, see: http://connectingshropshire.co.uk/basic-broadband-subsidyscheme/ or call Connecting Shropshire and we can assist you by completing the online application form on their behalf.

Legacy contract 1 work is expected to benefit premises in the south west of the parish. Work planned in contract 2 is expected to bring premises in Chetton within reach of a superfast broadband service.

Contract 3 – Airband http://connectingshropshire.co.uk/contract-3-airband/
The map in the attached document (available on the website) shows the planned/current Next Generation Access (NGA) coverage in the parish up to 2020 (NGA infrastructure is capable of delivering 30mbps). Most premises in the parish either already have current/planned access to fibre broadband (grey dots), or are expected to benefit from contract 3 (pink dots). Contract 3 has just been signed with a company called Airband, which has been providing access to high-speed wireless broadband in rural areas since 2002. Premises marked with a yellow dot are not currently in plan to get access to superfast broadband. Having said that, the Connecting Shropshire programme runs till 2020 and additional funding is available. We will be seeking a solution to provide superfast broadband for unserved premises and remain confident that we can provide access to a superfast broadband connection for all Shropshire Council premises by 2020.

Register your interest
If you’re in plan to be covered by contract 3 (pink dot), you can register your interest with Airband by entering your postcode on their website at https://home.airband.co.uk/.  Airband will then keep you updated as more information becomes available.

If parishioners have specific queries, they should email Connecting.shropshire@shropshire.gov.uk, with their question as well as providing their address and landline number (if they have one at the property).
